On the shore of Xingkai Lake in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, where ice has not yet completely melted, small but bright yellow spring flowers are blooming in clusters in ice and snow. Amur adonis, also known as 'Binglinghua' in Chinese, blooms earlier than other plants in the cold spring and stands out against the white snow and dark soil. It usually takes about five years for an Amur adonis to grow from a seed to a flower.
