The first phase of the eastern and middle routes of China's South-to-North Water Diversion Project has channeled more than 72 billion cubic meters of fresh water from the water-abundant south to the water-scarce regions in the north of the country, directly benefiting over 176 million people, since they went into operation respectively in November 2013 and December 2014, according to China South-to-North Water Diversion Corporation Limited.
